NBA Baller Beats with Kinect Integration Allows for Actual Basketball

Send to KindleTweet The upcoming Xbox 360 Kinect release of ‘NBA Baller Beats’ adds a real basketball experience to to an upcoming action game that is due this fall. It’s the first announced title to use the Kinect motion-sensing controller to follow an object beyond the player’s own body. Majesco says, “you are pretend playing. You are moving your arms and doing different gestures,” says Majesco senior product manager Tony Chien. Here, “you are not pretending to dribble a basketball, you actually have to dribble a basketball.” Players bounce the ball to the beat of the music; your visual cue is a line of basketballs that flows on a musical trail — think Guitar Hero or Rock Band. The icon player prepares you for an upcoming basketball move you need to perform, also in time with the music. That may be a crossover from one hand to the other, a dribble between the legs, a pass fake or shot fake. Players learn to use left and right hands and look up while dribbling, skills used on the real basketball court. NBA Baller Beats is the latest advance for Kinect, which has sold 18 million units worldwide since November 2010. Read more »

Microsoft’s CES 2012 keynote a flop?

Send to KindleTweetOn January 9, 2012, Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer took the stage at CES for the tech company’s final appearance at the electronics show. Along with him (for no real reason) was Ryan Seacrest. At the keynote, Ballmer didn’t really announce anything too special. Probably the biggest thing talked about was Kinect for Windows, which will be available in February for $250. Maybe a little too pricy for the general public, but indeed cool. So, altogether the Microsoft keynote was a little weird (with Ballmer and Seacrest chest-bumping; and the choir singing tweets about the keynote) and a little productive at the same time. But it was more weird, than anything. Read more »

OnLive Released on Android

gms_mobile

Send to KindleTweet Cloud-gaming company OnLive, a service that allows users with sub-par computers to play high end games by streaming content directly to the screen, has just now released their OnLive Player App for Android Phones and tablets alike. I’ve used this service almost religiously since it came out, on my netbook, and on my TV, as I purchased the OnLive Gaming Console in June of this year. I pay next to nothing for most of my games, as I am subscribed to the PlayPass, which for $9.99 a year, I get access to 160 (mostly bargain-bin titles, but some are actually worth playing) games, and 30% off all purchases, and combined with OnLive’s almost weekly Steam-like sales, I get to keep a nice chunk of cash in my pocket. The OnLive Player app essentially allows you to play PC/Console quality games on your cell phone or tablet. That’s right, now you can enjoy games such as DiRT 3, Darksiders, and LEGO Batman right on your tablet. Even better, for a limited time, OnLive is offering LEGO Batman for free for anyone who logs in with the mobile app. It works over 3G/WiFi, and I’ve found the experience to be seamless on both connections. Download the OnLive App: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.onlive.client&rdid=com.onlive.client Read more »

Xbox 360 getting USB mass storage support

image.png

Send to KindleTweet Major Nelson has just confirmed that the Xbox 360 will be gaining support for USB mass storage on April 6th. There will be a system update released on that date to allow this. Unfortunately, the maximum storage amount is 16GB so the best option is to use a flash drive instead of a big USB hard drive. Also, you will have to manually format the hard drive in order for this to work. However, Microsoft is partnering with SanDisk to release a special new drive for the 360 in May. There is also a new memory management screen included in the update, so check out some of the screenshots below: Read more »

Original Xbox Will Lose Xbox Live on April 15th

Lets say you downloaded an original Xbox game onto your 360. You will still have the ability to play the game but you can’t use the online features.
