The biggest problem I have with USB drives by far is losing them. I always lose these tricky little buggers and then it’s $10-30 wasted. The Tuff-Clip helps solve that problem with it’s durability and built in clip. I’ll be giving this Verbatim flash drive a spin to see if it lives up to the name “Tuff Clip”.

Design

Looks are always important on a flash drive, especially if it is well used in public. The Tuff Clip isn’t the most eye-catching of flash drives, but it gets the job done. It isn’t the worst looking flash drive out there and looks particularly good when on your belt. Some of the newer flash drives these days are incredibly thin, unlike the Tuff Clip. This is mainly because of the durability of the flash drive. The outer shell of the Tuff Clip is a plastic which is probably thick enough to survive a 10 feet drop. When not in use, the flash drive has a sliding door which protects the USB head from damage. After heavy use, I have found that this sliding mechanism does wear down and becomes easier to open. This means that in your pocket, the head might slide out resulting in possible damage. So if your looking for looks, the Tuff Clip is not right for you.

"Tuffness”

As this flash drive is called the “Tuff Clip” it’s necessary that we cover the durability. If the Tuff Clip took a fall, it would definitely chip, but the data would be fine. The device doesn’t scratch very easily if at all which is quite unusual for modern flash drives although this is supposed to be a durable flash drive. Because it’s very flimsy, I’m not sure the flash drive would survive that much wear and tear mainly because it’s made out of plastic. As I said earlier, this keeps the cost down. The Tuff Clip wouldn’t win any prizes for being the most durable flash drive out there but it is definitely more durable than your average $20 8GB flash drive.

Ideal Use

So yeah, the Tuff Clip is a great flash drive for viewing documents on the go, but where does it shine? Maybe you go over to your friends house to play Xbox a lot. Maybe you like to carry for Xbox profile and saved games around with you wherever you go. The point is, the Tuff Clip is perfect for use with the Xbox 360, Especially if you have the new Xbox 360 slim which uses USB for memory sticks. When your at home, just plug the Tuff Clip into your Xbox and simply carry it on your belt when out. After using many USB sticks for this same purpose, the Tuff Clip definitely performs the best. It’s fast, durable and has another storage for 10 DLCS.

Price and Value for Money

These days on Amazon, you can pick up a standard Sandisk 8GB USB memory stick for $17.99. The question is, is it worth paying extra for the “Tuffness” and clip? The answer is yes and no. If you’re a student who throws around his/her backpack and wants s USB stick what he/she doesn’t have to worry about getting damaged, the Tuff Clip is a good way to go. It’s also a good buy if you want a memory stick for your new Xbox 360 Slim or Xbox 360. If you want to get a cheap, $20 memory stick that is a just a memory stick, there are other options from verbatim. You can pick up the black Verbatim 8GB Tuff Clip on Amazon for $33.88: http://amzn.to/omnituffclip while the 4GB light blue model is available for $22 on Amazon.

Overall, I give the Verbatim Tuff Clip USB memory stick an 8/10 because of how tough it is, and because of the clip. The only setback is that these luxuries come at $10-15 extra.
