They’re the things that hold your entire computer life, so you want to pick a good one.Enter, G-Technology. Their line of hard drives have an amazing aluminum design, and go well with any Mac (or PC for that matter). Today I’m going to be review G-Technology’s G-Drive Slim, which you can get in 500gb or 320gb flavors.

Design

The one reason why I love this hard drive is the amazing design. It probably the best design I’ve ever seen on a portable hard drive. It’s made from aluminum (just like the new Macs), so obviously it goes nicely with a MacBook Air. It’s actually the perfect drive to carry around with any MacBook.

Being the “G-Drive Slim”, this hard drive is you guessed it; really thin. It’s by far thinner than my iPhone and MacBook Air. It has a sort of curved design which makes it slightly thicker, but definitely makes it look nice.

Speeds

The G-Drive Slim is powered by a Hitachi drive, and honestly it’s not the speediest hard drive (only 5400RPM). That being said, it’s just as fast as my MacBook’s hard drive, so it’s not that bad. You wouldn’t want to be doing any hard core video editing on it though.

I’ve found the best thing to use this drive for is using it as a Time Machine backup drive. It’s definitely got enough storage, and the speeds are adequate for backing up. It also works great for storing pictures, videos, and other large files on the go, because it’s so slim. Hey, it even passes for basic video editing in iMovie. It really is an awesome all purpose hard drive.

The Bottom Line

Overall, the G-Drive Slim is a great all around hard drive. I would recommend this hard drive to people who maybe have just got their first computer. It’s a great backup hard drive, as well as an all purpose drive for storing anything your heart desires. You can get this hard drive here for $99.

Review

Pros

Cons

Really nice design, Goes well with MacBooks, Makes a great Time Machine backup drive

Only 5400RPM, Quite expensive compared to other hard drives

Verdict

A great all around hard drive that goes well with MacBooks
