Amazon Kindle Fire Ignites iPad Mini With Comparisons Chart

Kindle Fire and iPad Mini

Send to KindleTweet Just last week, Apple held another press conference where it announced a brand new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. A new line-up of iMacs, a new Mac Mini, a new retina iPad, and the rumored iPad Mini was also announced. Apple released the iPad Mini as a competitor to 7-inch tablets such as the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire. The specs in the iPad Mini are decent. It comes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions in black and white colors. The screen resolution is not retina, but it’s an ok 1024×768 display with 168 pixels per inch. The processor is a dual-core A5 processor and it also has an HD front and back facing camera along with 1080p HD video recording and stabilization. The battery lasts up to 10 hours on such tasks as web browsing and watching videos and 9 hours on a cellular data network for the same tasks. The iPad Mini is available on Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon Wireless. Now onto the Kindle Fire specs. The Kindle Fire comes with 32GB and 16GB of memory depending on which model you get. Amazon has a “Special Offers” feature on their website that takes off $15 from the original price. The screen resolution on the Kindle Fire is 1280×800. The Fire comes with Dolby audio and dual-speakers. You also get free unlimited cloud storage after you purchase the Kindle Fire to store everything you download on the device. Amazon has even put up a full spec comparison list against the iPad Mini. After viewing the specs chart, you can obviously see the Amazon Kindle Fire offers much more for much less. Coming out with this list is a very smart move, especially including a quote by Gizmodo, a major tech blog. Amazon is also trying to wake consumers up by showing them that Apple is not always ahead in the game when it comes to specs and pricing of products. Apple, however, does have one advantage and that is the App Store. The App Store is what has made Apple’s iOS devices so successful in today’s market. Amazon, on the other hand, uses Google Play and it’s own Amazon App Store for their apps. For video, Amazon uses its own service called “Prime Instant Video.” However, since it is Apple, a lot of people might still buy the iPad Mini just for the name and the way the device looks. Apple, as a matter of fact, sold out of their white iPad Mini as soon as it was made available. Does this move by Amazon change the way you think about the Kindle Fire and iPad Mini?  IMAGE SOURCE: Amazon.com Read more »

Amazon Making Their Own Smartphone?

Amazon Logo

Send to KindleTweet With the recent release of the Kindle Fire, Amazon has graduated from just making e-readers to making what most of us would call a real tablet. Could the online shopping giant be taking a big leap into the world of smartphones? Bloomberg says that this smartphone would likely go head to head with the Apple iPhone, and would run Android, as well as that Foxconn would be the main maker of the device. Like the Kindle Fire, I would say it’s likely to say that this device would be a lower-end device, aimed towards the budget buyers. With that said, I don’t see how it could possibly compete with the iPhone, a higher-end device. The only way Amazon would be able to do this would be to throw in some pretty top notch parts. I also hope Amazon tries to keep Android as vanilla as possible. With the Kindle Fire, something I’m not too proud to own, you wouldn’t even know it was Android unless someone told you. Citigroup analyst Mark Mahaney says the smartphone would likely hit the shelves in November 2012. Would you buy an Amazon branded smartphone? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Send to KindleTweet What Blackberry called, “The best thing since the first Blackberry” is now seeing yet another price redection to the price of $200 for the 16GB model. This QNX powered tablet launched without email, calender and contacts applications which made it feel as though the device was rushed. This was origionally priced at $500, but this price drop should help sales a lot, though it is now in direct competition with the Amazon Kindle Fire also priced at $200. It is not known when this will be happening, but it should be coming before the holidays arrive. Which would you choose? Read more »

Why the Kindle Fire will succeed

Amazon's Kindle Fire

Send to KindleTweetWhen the Kindle Fire was introduced back in September, there were some skeptical people. Many thought that Amazon reaching the $200 price point would mean the tablet experience would be much worse than on other tablets at higher price points. They mentioned the lack of cameras, Bluetooth, a microphone, and more. But it doesn’t matter. Here’s why. When doubters mention the lack of these features, they aren’t thinking of the Kindle Fire’s target market. The Fire is for people who want to sit back and just play some games, read books, and watch movies. The new document translation feature is also really awesome. For them, cameras, Bluetooth, and microphones don’t matter to them. All they want is a way to enjoy content. Nothing more, nothing less. So, overall, I think the Kindle Fire will be great for people that just want to have an easy way to have a ton of content at their fingertips. And that’s what they’ll get. With Amazon Prime on the device, people will be able to stream tons of content for only $79 a year. That’s all most people need. With this price point, parents will be able to give their kids tablets without breaking the bank. The Fire will be what puts tablets into the hands of people that didn’t want to drop hundreds more for a more expensive tablet. And that’s what’s exciting. Read more »
