Get ready for some long nights

This holiday season is going to be a big one for all types of gamers. Nintendo fans can rejoice with the return of Kid Icarus, Mario, and many other beloved characters. More hardcore players will be able to immerse themselves into Battlefield 3 and Halo Anniversary Edition (pistol here I come). Here’s a basic overview of what you should look forward to in these next few months and into next year from Microsoft and Nintendo (sorry Playstation fans).

Nintendo

The announcement for the Wii U this year at E3 was somewhat of a disappointment to many fans including myself. However, Nintendo is Nintendo, and classic favorites such as Super Smash Bros, Tekken, and Ninja Gaiden will be available one the console. Surprisingly, Battlefield 3 will also be available on the Wii U, and I look forward to seeing how the new controller will be fit into the gameplay. 3DS owners like myself can look forward to Kid Icarus: Icarus (TBA), Super Smash Bros (TBA, linked with Wii U version), Animal Crossing (TBA), Mario Kart 7 (12/11), Super Mario 3D Land (11/11), Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance (TBA), Paper Mario (TBA), and many more. The new Legend of Zelda installment, Skyward Sword, will also be released for the Wii on November 11th, bundled with a golden Wii remote with the Zelda crest painted on it.

Microsoft

Halo fans will be gifted with the HD remake of Halo: Combat Evolved on November 15th. Some gamers might not be able to manage all the excitement, especially with Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 (November 8th) to handle at the same time. Halo fans can also look forward to the first game in the next Halo trilogy, Halo 4, in 2012. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will be released on November 30th, making it a great option for a early Christmas gift (to yourself, of course). More and more Kinect games are flooding into stores, as well, so if you own a Kinect you’re in luck for the holiday season. There will also be major updates to the Kinect Hub and Xbox Live, as many new features will become available to Gold Members.

This holiday season is something to look forward to, so make sure you get your pre-orders in before stores are all sold out. Even after December passes and 2012 begins, all gamers can look forward to another awesome year of video games.
