New Apple Patent Eliminates Mouse?
Jon Drago | January 24, 2011 08:49 PM Tags: AppleA new Apple patent has surfaced and it seems to show the new keyboards with motion sensors. These motion sensors are going to have the ability to track your fingers as you use the keyboard as a way to eliminate the mouse/trackpad to make the keyboard the only accessory. The keys will be the same but as for function of the “Slot Cameras” MacRumors said:
The motion-sensitive area is implemented in this design with four “slot cameras” around the perimeter of the keyboard. These cameras are be able to track the user’s finger movements immediately above the keyboard to provide the usual mouse or trackpad functions of cursor tracking and window scrolling.
Basically it is going to use these new sensors to be able to notice when your fingers are just above the keys, and motioning the page down scroll, three finger page jump, page jump forward/backward, and so on. Just because the patent has been submitted does not mean that it is going to be produced. I personally don’t think we are going to see this in the near future (due to the popularity of the Magic Mouse) but it is always an option apple my decide to produce.
