One of the new features that came along with iOS 4.2 was a function change for the iPad’s screen orientation lock switch. The switch now serves as a mute button and left many people confused as to how they would go about locking their screen orientation. The answer is simple. All you have to do is double-click your home button to bring up the app switcher bar thingy. Scroll to the left until you get to the brightness and music options. There, alongside the two, will be a button to lock the screen orientation. This happens to work on the iPhone and iPod Touch now as well. Hope that clears things up.
