Gnomedex Day One Overview!

Brian Solis:
Brian describes how our lives are a similar to a reality show and we are most likely the last generation to know what privacy is. He then goes on to tell us how privacy is something you need to be taught and not anyone can understand what exactly privacy is. Brian then goes on to tell us some fun facts for example, A majority of social media users are women. The main message was "Learn and Lead."

Trish Millines Dziko:
In the beginning Trish tells us about her background and how she got started in Social Media. Trish started the Technology Access Foundation to give access to people of color. She then goes on to tell us how the US ranks near the bottom in most measures of student achievement. She says the student with more resources will do better in school then another student without resources. Trish told us that they are opening a TAF school which is supported by private industry which will be for grades 6-12.

Charles Brennick from InterConnection:
This company reuses old computers to 3rd world countries and help people communicate via email in developing countries. This will also be a big step up for schools and helps out people wanting to improve their job skills. These computers are helping people on improving education and in health issues. Some of the countries InterConnection has sent out computers are Honduras, Cambodia and Kenya.

Austin Heap:
Austin is a dedicated fighter against censorship throughout the world. Austin tells us about his most recent experience in Iran where people used Twitter, Email and Text to spread the word about what is going on.
He then goes on to tell us about the new HBO Documentary called "For Neda."

Tom Nugent:

Tom talked to us about his company called LaserMotive. He shared ALL of their experiences while competing in a NASA competition.

Todd Welch from TrustTour:
Todd went on a tour to interview people regarding the subject of trust and the main thing he got out of it is that respect is the biggest part of trust. If you put trust into your everyday life it would make the world a better place Todd tells us.

Willow Brugh:

Willow’s presentation was a bit shorter and less in-depth than the others, but was still quite fascinating. She talked about trans-humanism mainly in the field of medicine.

Johnny Diggz:
"Geeks without Borders" is an international humanitarian organization of geeks working together to assist people whose survival is threatened by lack of access to technology. He goes on to tell us about a Communication Hub to access Cell Phone, SMS/Text Message, Instant Message, Skype, Twitter, Social Media and Smoke Signals. Launch is on 10/10/10 @ 10:10 PST.
