Yesterday I shared with you 3 ways to clean up your computer and home office. That was just the physical hardware and desk stuff though. This week we’re going inside Windows to clean up your hard drive and operating system.
1. Built-in Disk Cleanup Utility
Windows has a built-in utility called Disk Clean-up. It can be found by typing Disk Cleanup into the start menu. It will scan your hard drive for files that you don’t need anymore. Things like temporary files, deleted files, and previous Windows installations. From there you can select the things you’d like to delete and Disk Cleanup will automatically remove those files from your PC.
2. Disk Space Fan
Disk Space Fan is a fantastic and free piece of software that creates an easy-to-understand graph of your hard drive. It allows you to see what files and folders are filling up more of your computer. This great utility comes in a free and a pro version and is available at http://www.diskspacefan.com/
3. Take time to organize your files and folders
This may seem pretty basic, but simply going through your hard drive and organizing your files is a fantastic way to clean out your computer. You can also clean up your hard drive by deleting files you don’t need anymore. Allocate a good hour or two to this because it might take a while.
