Which Twitter Client is Right for You?

Are you a Twitter addict? If so then you’ve probably switched over to a Twitter client already. The web-based client just isn’t as functional as most desktop clients. It doesn’t really allow us that much flexibility in our tweets. If you’re still using the web-based client then I’d strongly recommend using a desktop client. If you’re already using a desktop client that works for you, then keep on using it. Today, I’m going to be talking a little bit about Twitter clients and which one is right for you.
As of right now, the 2 most popular Twitter clients (besides the web-based client) are Twhirl and TweetDeck. They both provide lots of cool features that aren’t available on the web-based client. Let’s start off with Twhirl. Twhirl is an easy-to-use, yet functional Twitter client. It has a very simple user-interface that can be customized to your liking. You can toggle the input panel, view replies and direct messages, and search for specific tweets. It also allows you to shorten URLs and upload pictures to TwitPic.
TweetDeck on the other hand, has a more complex user-interface and includes lots more features that really allow you to be creative with your tweeting. TweetDeck allows you to have multiple columns set up at the same time so that you can view all received tweets in one column, all replies in one column, and all direct messages in another. You can also toggle the input panel which is located at the top of the screen as opposed to the bottom of the screen like in Twhirl. It also allows you to tweet from multiple Twitter accounts simultaneously. TweetDeck also has a nifty little feature called “TweetDeck Recommends” which gives you a list of people that it recommends that you follow.
Overall, both clients are good. It really depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re looking for something simple but you don’t want to use the web-based client, I would recommend Twhirl. If you tweet more often and you want to have lots of cool navigational features and options, then I would recommend TweetDeck.
